We joined a panel at TRAN/SUM by the Nikkei and the Japanese government to discuss the landscape of mobility and its convergence of industry and technology. Intertangible had the honor of participating in the esteemed TRAN/SUM event, a cornerstone of the SUM/SERIES summits that foster connections between government, corporates, academia, and startups. At Intertangible, we took part in a dynamic exchange of ideas that explored the journey toward full automation in self-driving technologies, with our Board Member Una Sofic taking the stage as a speaker in a panel about automotive automation. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the TRAN/SUM event and share the illuminating insights from the panel discussion.

TRAN/SUM: Charting the Future of Transportation

As an integral event within the SUM/SERIES summits, TRAN/SUM stands as a testament to innovation and collaboration. Founded by Nikkei and often co-organized by diverse branches of the Japanese Government, these summits create unique bridges between industries, fostering a space where technology’s potential meets real-world application. In the context of transportation, TRAN/SUM serves as a platform for envisioning the future of mobility, connectivity, and autonomy.

Self-Driving Technologies: Navigating the Path to Full Automation

The panel, aptly titled “Self-Driving Technologies: Steering Towards Full Automation,” delved into the current state of (semi)autonomous vehicles and the trajectory leading to full automation. The conversation explored crucial questions: How close are we to achieving full automation? What steps are necessary to cultivate trust within the industry and among the wider public? And how will these advancements impact our daily lives?

Unlocking the Potential: Insights from Visionaries

The panelists brought diverse perspectives to the forefront, creating a tapestry of insights that painted a comprehensive picture of self-driving technologies. From Christian Weiner, Senior Product Manager at Softing Automotive Electronics, to Shakti Mahapatra, Co-Head of Business Development at Netradyne, and Masayuki Ishizaki, CEO of Ascent Robotics, the discourse touched upon the pivotal steps required to transition from today’s (semi)autonomous vehicles to a future marked by full automation.

Pioneering Trust and Quality Assurance

An integral aspect of the discussion centered on trust-building and quality assurance—a foundation for the successful adoption of self-driving technologies. The journey to full automation entails addressing challenges related to technology robustness, regulatory frameworks, safety standards, and public perception. The panelists highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts between industry leaders, policymakers, and society at large in shaping a secure and trustworthy autonomous future.
